Arrived in Austin and immediately dropped our stuff off in the hotel room and then went on the hunt for a coffee place. Ended up finding a couple different Starbuck's over the trip but the one in the JW Marriott in Austin was our most well-visited one by far.
Really wanted to eat at Iron Works BBQ pictured above. I feel like it looked like a real bayou, cool spot. Didn't end up making it, but did grab some Iron Works spices!
I ended up going on a late night walk through downtown Austin. Walked across a bridge, and along the waterfront at the Austin skyline. There were so many other people there too, walking just like I was or going for a run. It was really peaceful and nice. Listening to music, walking along the water. Then of course, a stop for booze before heading back to the hotel room.
This was the first official meal in Austin at Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken. This was everything I could have wanted it to be.
Big surprise of the trip, my first tattoo. Be sure to check out the artist @josegpalacios77 on insta
Next best meal of the trip was at the Austin Taco Project. Can't talk this place up enough. The service was amazing and so was the food. The poutine however, was not poutine. ;)
Couldn't not visit Voodoo Donuts in Austin after having it talked up by a friend. Definitely overindulged, they were so good!
The view from our hotel room at the Hyatt Place Austin Downtown. Great staff once again, good room.
Enjoyed cocktails (pictured, the El Jefe and strawberry margarita on the rocks). Delicious food at Uncle Julio's (literally a minute walk from the hotel!)
Walked around the Texas Sate Capitol building late at night when everything else was closed. Took a self guided tour. The place was massive, and so cool to walk through. Everything was quiet, and echoey. You could really put yourself there during bustling hours and you could really take the time to look at every painting, since it was so quiet. I really can't talk it up enough! Late at night is the right time to go. Had a fabulous time.
You might be able to see in the photo above, I'm totally wearing my alltime fav pair of mononymous leggings - that you see me wear in a lot of these travel blogs - my Tree of Life Leggings. I love them.
While walking back to the hotel room something about Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que jumped out to us so we stopped for supper and it was awesome!
That's really it! We then missed the fight home and ended up driving home. You can check out the blog on our Austin to Ottawa Roadtrip here if you're curious how the adventure ends!Cheers!
